Everyone likes to indulge when they’re on holiday – and there’s no end of opportunity to spoil yourself rotten when you come to stay at the White Sands Hotel & Spa on the glorious Islands of Cape Verde. But luxurious holidays in the sun don’t need to adversely affect your fitness goals. And of course, many people like to train hard to get themselves trimmed down and into shape ready for the pool and beach long before their vacation is due – the last thing anyone wants is for all that hard work to go to waste when you finally arrive.
Staying fit and keeping up with your training and workout routines when you’re on holiday is really not as tedious as it may sound. In fact, a luxurious break away from it all in a beautiful destination actually makes a lot of people feel more energised, not less. It’s almost a paradox, but keeping active on holiday is often the perfect way to relax and unwind – and at the White Sands Hotel & Spa, you’ll be able to have lots of fun while you’re at it.
Fitness Centres, Swimming Pools and Tennis Courts
For starters, the Resort plays host to the world-famous YHI Spa Gym. Complete with state of the art cardio equipment, as well as weight machines and a free weight section, this on-site fitness centre is the ideal place to work up a sweat and keep your heart pumping during your stay at the White Sands Hotel & Spa.
Exercise bikes with plasma TVs and free Wi-Fi, treadmills, elliptical cross trainers, bodybuilding equipment, abdominal benches, and a vast range of weights are all ready for action in the fully air-conditioned YHI Spa Gym – what better way to work off the previous evening’s holiday indulgences? What’s more, the gym is located right next to the YHI Spa, so you’ll be able to immediately reward all your hard efforts with the many Spa treatments available, or simply wind down in the sauna or steam room after your workout.
Don’t fancy the gym? No worries – at the White Sands Hotel & Spa there’s plenty of opportunity to blow-off some energy in the Resort’s six swimming pools. It’s well-known that swimming is a fantastic way to stay in shape. Gentle on the joints, a few well-paced laps will get your heart rate up – great for your cardiovascular fitness and cholesterol levels – and keep your body loose and well-exercised. Indeed, a brisk swim is the perfect way to punctuate those long, relaxing days topping up your sun tan by the pool.
But of course, you may prefer to reserve your dips for cool-down sessions, either after you’ve hit the gym, or following a few rallies at the Resort tennis courts and beach ball courts. There’s no escaping it – the weather on Cape Verde is glorious. Year-round temperatures average between 25°C and 30°C – so any outdoor exercise you partake in is going to be hot and thirsty work, and a cooling dive into a pool in the general direction of the swim-up bar where ice-cold beverages await will be the perfect remedy and reward.
Sea and Sand to Surf and Hike
The White Sands Hotel & Spa takes its name from the sugar-white sands of Santa Monica Beach – a glistening stretch of sand just footsteps away from the Resort itself. Gyms, swimming pools and tennis courts are great ways to build up a sweat – but sometimes the best and most revitalising workouts are achieved when you take advantage of what nature provides for free.
With a cooling, Atlantic breeze beating gently in across the crystal-clear water, a brisk walk or sweat-inducing jog along Santa Monica will be breath-taking in more ways than one. The white sands of Boa Vista – the Island upon which the White Sands Hotel & Spa is built – really must be seen to be believed, and what better way to indulge in their beauty than by trekking them. In all, there are 55km of beach to explore on the Island – this might be too much by foot for even the keenest of hiker or jogger, and, if so, then there’s always quad bikes for hire (great for strengthening the arms), so you need not miss a grain.
And for the even more adventurous, Boa Vista plays host to one of the region’s liveliest windsurfing and kitesurfing hotspots. Even if you’ve never surfed before, there is plenty of opportunity to learn on the Island. Surf schools are available, or, if you already have experience and just need to hire the equipment, you’ll find everything you need to hit the waves and get that adrenaline pumping.
Exhilarating Experiences at The White Sands Hotel & Spa
Staying active at the White Sands Hotel & Spa is easily built into your holiday experience during your visit to the stunning Islands of Cape Verde. With an abundance of in-Resort facilities – swimming pools, fitness centres, tennis courts, beach ball courts and more – there’s no shortage of opportunity to build up a sweat. And with practically endless stretches of sand to jog or trek, and a glorious ocean to swim, dive and ride, you need never worry about missing your workouts or losing the progress you’d worked so hard for in preparation for your holiday. In fact, you’ll go home in even better shape than when you arrived.
